The Analog Standard
Originally engineered for heavy-duty big rig seats, these manual pneumatic paddle valves have been a staple of the custom air ride community for decades. They offer an incredibly simple and reliable method for lifting and lowering your vehicle without the need for complex self-leveling computers or electronic solenoids. This “bulletproof” design provides the ultimate balance of performance and affordability, making it the ideal choice for enthusiasts who value dependable functionality over advanced complications.
Industry Standard Performance
These are the industry-standard 1/4″ barbed paddle valves, known for their extreme reliability. While they may not offer the faster speed of an electric manifold setup, they work admirably when paired with a high-capacity air tank and a 200 PSI compressor and pressure switch. On a typical classic vehicle, you can expect a lift time of approximately 4 to 6 seconds for the front, while the lighter rear end will rise slightly quicker. Note that during deflation, the rear will naturally drop slower than the front – obviously because the rear is lighter and the weight of the motor is not there to help push the air out.
The Truth About Speed
A common question we receive is whether upgrading to larger 3/8″ or 1/2″ air hoses will increase speed. It is important to know that hose size will have no effect on performance with these valves. Whether you use a standard line or a garden hose, the actuation speed is strictly dictated by the 1/4″ internal barb design on the back of the paddle. These are designed for precision and reliable cruising, not “hopping.”
